53IB Strengthens Community Bonds with Iftar Offering in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) fostered peace and understanding with the Moro community in Zamboanga del Sur through an Iftar Offering held in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged barangay of Pisaan, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur on March 16, 2024. This event, significant during the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan, allowed soldiers to connect with locals as they broke their fast.

Led by 53IB’s Executive Officer Maj. Bahnarin Camsa, the Iftar Offering brought together the 53IB with roughly 280 Moro community members, including Moro Leader Uztadz Moguiahid C. Samin and Pisaan Barangay Chairman Hadjer B. Lao. Discussions addressed pressing issues like the presence of lawless elements in coastal areas and the general peace and order situation. This open dialogue strengthened collaboration between the military and the community.

The Iftar Offering, conducted successfully with the support of NAXX Enterprises, concluded at 7:00 pm that same day. The 53IB’s participation highlights the importance of Ramadan, a time for fasting, prayer, reflection, and charity, for the Muslim community in Zamboanga del Sur.
