Department of Labor and Employment Provides Livelihood Toolkits to Friends Rescued

The Department of Labor and Employment – Region 9 (DOLE-IX) through its Zamboanga del Sur Field Office (DOLE ZDSFO) recently handed over livelihood toolkits to the Friends Rescued (FRs) of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ZDS PTF-ELCAC) during a ceremony held on February 17, 2024, at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Major David P Sabido, Poblacion, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

The event was graced by DOLE-IX Regional Director Albert Gutib together with DOLE ZDSFO Chief LEO Miraflor Casanes and LIFABEMCO Manager Renita Daway, underscoring the government’s commitment to reintegrating FRs back into mainstream society and providing them with a pathway to a brighter future.

The livelihood assistance, as part of the government’s thrust to finally end local communist armed conflict in the country, aims to equip FRs with the necessary tools and skills to establish sustainable livelihoods and become productive members of their communities.

The FR beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude for the DOLE assistance, highlighting the hope and new beginnings it represents.

DOLE’s initiative aligns with the government’s overall ELCAC strategy, which emphasizes providing former rebels with socio-economic opportunities to address the root causes of insurgency and foster sustainable development.
