The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) and the San Miguel Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) facilitated the return of a fallen NPA terrorist to his family residing in Barangay San Isidro, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur on August 9, 2023.
The neutralized Communist NPA Terrorist, identified as Edwin Gulane, also known by his aliases “Joffer” and “Imon” and a remnant of the CPP-NPA-NDF’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC), was immediately abandoned by his comrades following an armed encounter with government troops the early morning of August 9 at Sitio Dibo, Barangay New Rizal, Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.
In a statement, 102nd Infantry “Brigade” Commander Brig. Gen. Elmer Suderio encouraged the remaining NPA terrorists to finally lay down their arms and return to the folds of law.
Our troops, taking into heart the concept of human rights and the International Humanitarian Law, made the genuine effort to retrieve the cadaver of Edwin so he can be broought back to his family.
The Army also expresses its gratitude to the San Miguel MTF-ELCAC headed by Mayor Ex Ocapan for the support in providing decent burial needs and bringing the fallen NPA to his family.
