HONORING SACRIFICE AND DEDICATION: Tabak Commander Recognizes Heroism of Matapat Trooper

The Army’s 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division (1ID) Commander Maj. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete recognized the heroism of Private First Class Vergel Monsalud and awarded him the Wounded Personnel Medal during his visit at Kuta Cesar Sang-an Station Hospital on August 3, 2023.

The award received by Private First Class Monsalud serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to the values of duty, sacrifice, and honor, during a fierce armed encounter with the leadership of the CPP-NPA-NDF’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee at Purok 2, Brgy. Saad, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, last July 7, 2023.

Maj. Gen. Nafarrete proudly commended PFC Monsalud for his courage and dedication to duty. The Commander likewise expressed his gratitude and support to the family of PFC Monsalud.

PFC Monsalud’s family also received support from the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines; Chief, Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines; and Commander, 102nd Infantry “Igsoon” Brigade.
