COMMEMORATING 125 YEARS OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE: 53IB Participates in Flag Raising, Wreath Laying Ceremonies in Area of Responsibility

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) participated in various flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies in its area of responsibility in commemoration of the 125th Independence Day yesterday, June 12.

In the Province of Zamboanga del Sur, the flag raising and wreath laying was conducted at the Provincial Capitol and was graced by ZDS 2nd District Representative Hon. Jeyzel Victoria Yu, Vice Governor Roseller Ariosa, Provincial Board Members, and other guests and stakeholders.

The 53IB also participated in flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies in Pagadian City, Dumalinao, Bayog, and Dumingag, which was graced by their respective esteemed mayors.

Meanwhile, Pagadian City honored Late Corporal Ian O. Paquit, a recipient of the Philippines’ highest military award for courage, the Medal of Valor, in its Independence Day Celebration, which was graced by Tabak Division’s Assistant Division Commander for Retirees and Reservist Affairs Col. Antonio Divinagracia. Late Cpl Paquit paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Zamboanga Siege in September 2013.

The 53IB remains committed in its mandate to sustain peace in the province to ensure unhampered progress and development.
