ENHANCING TROOPS’ LIFE-SAVING SKILLS: ICRC Holds Basic Trauma First Aid Training For 53IB
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) conducted a 4-day Basic Trauma First Aid Training for the troops of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) on May 9 to 12, 2023, at 53IB Headquarters, Poblacion, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide immediate assistance to those who have been injured or wounded during armed conflict and other emergencies such as during Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations.
Over the course of the four-day program, the participants received hands-on training and instruction from experienced ICRC trainers, covering topics such as bleeding control, airway management, and the treatment of fractures, burns, and other injuries. The training also emphasized the importance of protecting oneself and others while providing first aid in dangerous situations.
53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Terence Ylanan extended his sincerest gratitude to ICRC for equipping and enhancing the troops’ life-saving skills.
The training was supervised by Zamboanga Protection field Officer Mr. Glenn Oliva together with Health Field Officers Mr. Michael Angelo Guiroy and Mr. Gabriel Sison.
