RECOGNIZING MATAPAT WOMEN’S CONTRIBUTIONS: 53IB Concludes Women’s Month with First-Ever Awarding of Matapat Empowered Women

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) concluded its month-long celebration of the National Women’s Month with its first-ever Awarding of Matapat Women in an activity held on March 31, 2023, at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Poblacion, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

The activity was graced by Zamboanga del Sur 1st District Representative Hon. Divina Grace Yu, represented by ZDS Board Member Atty. Jenifer Din-Mariano.

The activity awarded 5 Matapat Empowered Women in the following categories: Dependent-Wife Category, Dependent-Daughter Category, Enlisted Personnel Category, CAA Category, and Friend Rescued Category.

These women are adjudged to possess the virtues and qualities of a MATAPAT empowered woman. Someone who embodies the qualities of courage, integrity, resilience, and a steadfast determination to create positive change in the world. She is a champion of gender equality and social justice, and uses her leadership, advocacy, and community-building skills to empower other women to pursue their dreams and overcome the barriers that stand in their way. She is a role model for others and a source of inspiration for those who seek to create a more just, equitable, and inclusive world.

In her message, Atty. Mariano representing Cong. Divina Grace Yu , congratulated the awardees for exhibiting the true sense of “Matapat Empowered Woman.”

Meanwhile, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Terence Ylanan also expressed his gratitude to Cong. Divina Grace Yu for advocating women empowerment and for her invaluable contributions to make the activity a success.

The awardees also gave their respective messages of gratitude to Cong. Divina Grace Yu and to the 53IB for recognizing their efforts and achievements.
