RECOGNIZING INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS: 53IB Presents Token of Gratitude to 551EBn

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) presented the Philippine Eagle as a token of gratitude to the Army’s 551st Engineer “Kasarigan” Battalion (551EBn) in a simple activity held on July 22, 2022 at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Poblacion, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

The award was received by 551EBn’s Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Lorvina Lamug also the former commander of 549EBn for her steadfast leadership and significant contribution to peace and development in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.

Specifically, the Army Engineer Battalions were instrumental in the construction, road opening, and road gravelling of various Barangay Development Program (BDP) projects in 53IB’s area of operations:

– (549EBn) | Road opening and rehabilitation of farm-to-market road in Barangay Ocapan, San Miguel, ZDS;

– (549EBn) | Construction of the multi-purpose building in Barangay Ocapan, San Miguel, ZDS;

– (551EBn) | 6-kilometer road opening and gravelling from Barangay Datu Tutukan to Barangay Labangon, Dumingag, ZDS;

– (551EBn) | Opening of 312-meter Diversion Road on Critical Slope at Barangay Datu-Tutukan, Dumingag, ZDS

In a statement, Lt. Col. Herrera expressed his gratitude to Lt. Col. Lamug for unceasing support to the 53IB.

“Our fruitful partnership has brought about significant changes to our fellow Filipinos especially those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Lamug also expressed her gratitude to Lt. Col. Herrera for the said recognition.

“These projects will not only sustain a long-lasting peace, but also uplift the lives of our fellow countrymen in the hinterlands,” said Lt. Col. Lamug.

Lt. Col. Herrera and Lt. Col. Lamug are proud members of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Masikhay” Class of 1999.
