The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) distributed the book “Beyond the Surface” to Civil Relations Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines (CRSAFP) It was given by 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar A Herrera and was received by Col. Marlowe E Patria – Chief of Staff, CRSAFP, also the former Commanding Officer of 53IB. Civil Relations Service is the AFP unit that engages the populace through its public information and community relations programs to create a favorable atmosphere between the community and the AFP.

BEYOND THE SURFACE contains compelling revelations and an in-depth understanding of the psychology of terrorist and offers a basis for the Philippine Army’s soft-power approach in partnership with various local government units and government agencies in formulating intervention and deradicalization programs for former CPP-NPA-NDF terrorists. The book was written by Dr. Moibe F. Olitres with foreword by Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D. Bautista.
