UPHOLDING HUMAN RIGHTS: 53IB Recovers Cadaver of Communist NPA Terrorist Abandoned by Comrades in Dumingag Encounter; Returns Body to the Bereaved Family
The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) facilitated the return of the abandoned CPP-NPA member after an armed encounter against the remnants of the CPP-NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) transpired on June 27, 2022 in Barangay Dapiwak, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
The cadaver, identified as Nilo Runat Tambula Jr aka Benjie/Cesar, was a former member of the defunct Guerilla Front BBC under WMRPC.
In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera expressed his gratitude to Dumingag MTF-ELCAC for the efforts to facilitate Nilo’s return to his family.
“Our thanks to Dumingag MTF-ELCAC for helping us return Nilo to his family,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
“The 53IB will continue to uphold and respect human rights. Our humanity and professionalism do not stop even after our enemy is neutralized,” Lt. Col. Herrera added.
