RELENTLESS OPERATIONS AGAINST CPP-NPA TERRORISTS: 53IB Clashes with CPP-NPA Remnants in Dumingag; Neutralizes Terrorist, Recovers High-Powered Firearms

As it continues to conduct relentless operations to pursue the remaining communist terrorists in the province, the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) clashed with the remnants of CPP-NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) on June 27, 2022, in Barangay Dapiwak, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.

The armed encounter lasted for about 20 minutes with no casualty on the government side, and resulted in the neutralization of Nilo Runat Tambula Jr aka Benjie/Cesar, a former member of the defunct Guerilla Front BBC under WMRPC; recovery of one (1) M16 assault rifle, and other personal belongings.

In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said the 53IB will continue to conduct peacekeeping operations to keep the people safe.

“The 53IB, your Army in Zamboanga del Sur, will not stop until the few, remaining NPA terrorists are eradicated. We will not stop until the people are finally safe,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.

Meanwhile, Army’s 102nd Infantry “Igsoon” Brigade Commander BGen. Leonel Nicolas encouraged the NPA terrorists still in the hinterlands to lay down their arms and return to the folds of law.

“It is not yet late to lay down your arms and be with your families. Return to the government, and guaranteed that your welfare will be taken care of,” said BGen. Nicolas.

The government troops are currently conducting hot pursuit operations as of this posting.
