TENDING WOUNDED ENEMY: Wounded NPA Medic Rescued After Clash, Surrenders to 53IB

A wounded member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) after being rescued following the clash between the Army’s 102nd Infantry “Igsoon” Brigade (102Bde) and the communist terrorist groups last May 12, 2022 in Barangay Midatag, Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte.

Jenelyn Lapas alias Ace, wife of alias Mobin who died from the said clash, is the former Liaison Staff of the CPP-NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC); Finance Staff of the defunct Guerilla Front-BBC (GF-BBC); and a former member of the defunct Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU).

In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Herrera said it is just right to treat the wounded even if it is the enemy.

“We recognize that she cannot fight anymore. Though she is the enemy of the people and the State, she still deserves medical treatment,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
