CAMP IMPROVEMENT | 53IB’s Circumferential Road Inaugurated
The Circumferential Road on Camp Major David P Sabido, the home of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB), was blessed and inaugurated on January 28, 2022 in a simple Inauguration Ceremony held as part of its 37th Founding Anniversary with the theme “Matapat @ 37: Victory in Time of Convergence” at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The 1LT GUMAMPANG Circumferential Road was constructed from 04 February to 10 November 2021 and donated by the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur under the able leadership of Gov. Victor J. Yu.
In a statement, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera expressed his gratitude to Governor Yu for the continued partnership and convergence in bringing progress and development in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur.
“This Circumferential Road significantly contributed to the uplifting of our troops’ morale and welfare. Let us continue this close partnership to sustain progress and development in the Province of Zamboanga del Sur,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
The circumferential road is constructed in honor of late 1Lt. Sahiron A. Gumampang who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the people of Sulu during the encounter against the Abu Sayyaf Group at the vicinity of Karawan Complex, Indanan, Sulu on 04 September 2005.
