RECOGNIZING PARTNER IN PEACEBUILDING: 53IB Presents Token of Appreciation to Pagadian City Mayor
The Philippine Army’s 53d Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) presented the Matapat Eagle Award as a Token of Appreciation to Pagadian City Mayor Samuel S. Co in a simple ceremony held in connection with the unit’s 37th Founding Anniversary Celebration with the theme “Matapat @ 37: Victory in Time of Convergence” at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur on January 26, 2022.
In his message, Mayor Co expressed his gratitude to 53IB for keeping Pagadian City safe and for being an active partner in peacebuilding.
“We thank the 53IB for its dedication, steadfast, and resolute service and commitment in keeping Pagadian City safe,” said Mayor Co.
Meanwhile, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera also expressed his sincerest gratitude to Mayor Co for his invaluable support rendered to the 53IB which greatly contributed to the accomplishment of the unit’s mission.
“Mayor Sammy Co’s commitment portrays strong collaboration and partnership that strengthens the government’s peacebuilding efforts,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
In May 2021, Pagadian City was declared “insurgency free” by virtue of Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 2021-1085.
