The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) bestowed the Matapat Eagle Award to show its recognition to its retirees in a simple ceremony held at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Maj. David Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur last November 16, 2021.
The Matapat Eagle Award was received by retirees SSg Rey Alvarez, SSG Romil Apao and Sgt Kabir Sahadani who has been contributed to the success and mission accomplishment of the unit and the entire Philippine Army.
53IB’s Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera also acknowledge their spouses by giving them the Certificate of Appreciation respectively; to Alvarez’s wife, Mrs Jennith Alvarez, Mrs. Florie Mae Apao and Mrs. Merilyn Sahadani for their invaluable support to their husband while serving the Filipino people.
“I thank our Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera and all the Matapat Troopers for this [Matapat Eagle] award and this ceremony. Even after I retire, I will look for ways to be of help to you, my fellow Matapat Troopers,” SSg Rey Alvarez said.
“Your achievements have made the difference in the Armed Forces and I commend your dedication and patriotism. You all spent your life for the country, but the time has come to look after yourself and your family. We are very grateful to have you in serving the communities and securing the province of Zamboanga del Sur. ” said Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera.
