DISTINGUISHING INVALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS: 53IB’s Operations Officer Awarded as 2021 Outstanding Company Grade Officer During 69th Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur

Then Charlie “Colossus” Company Commander and now Operations Officer of the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) 1Lt. Jonathan Cernitchez was awarded as the “2021 Outstanding Company Grade Officer” by Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor J. Yu during the Most Outstanding Zambosurians Awarding Ceremony held at Mindanao Hall, Provincial Government Complex, Dao, Pagadian City on September 17, 2021.

The awarding of Most Outstanding Zambosurians was part of the 69th Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur celebration with the theme “Sa paglipad 🦅 ng Zamboanga del Sur, bida ang bakunadong Zambosurians.

“As a dedicated and highly-capable officer, 1Lt. Cernitchez during his stint as Operations Officer successfully managed the successful conduct of combat operations and other operational requirements of the 53IB that successfully led to the dismantling of NPA units in the province, namely: Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU), HQ “KALAW,” and Regional Urban Committee – Regional Operations Command, all under the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) which resulted to the declaration of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur as insurgency free and readily for further development.

During his commandership of this unit’s Charlie Company, 1Lt. Cernitchez also led a total of eighty-eight (88) combat operations and registered one (1) encounter that resulted to the confiscation of one (1) high-powered firearm, several rounds of ammunition, and other war materials.

He also put premium on the Civil-Military Operations (CMO) activities of his Company by conducting Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) Activities; Bloodletting Program; Feeding Programs; Clean-up Drives; Tree Planting activities; Gift Giving activities; Brigada Eskwelas; Sectoral Symposiums; attendance to Peace and Order Council Meetings; Pulong-pulong activities; Community Engagements and Dialogues; Stakeholders Engagements; and inter-agency Coordinations, among others.

1Lt. Cernitchez also participated in 53IB’s “Better Life: Adopt-a-CAFGU Program” by conducting Adopt-a-CAFGU activities in 9 different CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAA) patrol bases.With these remarkable achievements, 1Lt. Cernitchez is hereby awarded of his special recognition for his commitment to help and maintain lasting peace and order in the province.

1Lt. Cernitchez resides in Pili, Camarines Sur and is a proud member of Officer Preparatory Course (OPC) “MASARIG” Class 64-2015.
