THE YOUTH’S CONTRIBUTION TO PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT: LGU, Army Empower Youth During International Youth Day Celebration
The United States Government Alumni Association – Zamboanga del Sur (USGAA) and the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) inspired and empowered 70-capable and strong youths during the celebration of International Youth Day held at LGU Dumalinao Function Hall, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur on August 12, 2021.
This year’s International Youth Day celebration offered a chance to deepen the youth’s knowledge, understanding of responsibility, and to raise awareness of the need to ensure the engagement and their participation as a major stakeholder in the society’s decision-making process.
53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera in his talk espoused the youth’s contribution to peace and development.
“You are the nation’s hope. Recognize that you can do so much, and discern what you can contribute, no matter how little, to the peace and development of our country,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
Meanwhile, USGAA Zamboanga del Sur President Hon. Junaflor Cerilles in her message inspired and enourage the youth to participate in the process and use their voice by taking a stand in exercising their right to vote.
The activity also heard the messages of Ako Bagwit Chairperson Samira Gutoc; US Embassy in the Philippines Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer Jennifer Goldstein, and National Youth Commission Regional Director Raymundo Domingo.
