COMMEMORATING EID AL-ADHA WITH BANGSAMORO BROTHERS AND SISTERS | Army, LGU Turn Over Masjid to Bangsamoro Community

In commemoration of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, the Municipal Government of Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB), and 547th Engineer ‘Agila’ Battalion (547EBn) turned-over a Masjid to the Bangsamoro Community of Barangay Mama of the same municipality in a simple but fitting Masjid Ribbon Cutting and Inauguration Ceremony yesterday, July 19, 2021.

A Masjid, also called a Mosque, is a place of worship for Islam.In her message, Dumalinao mayor Junaflor “Sweet” Cerilles expressed her gratitude to the Army for the said project.”I am happy that this Barangay’s need for Masjid is addressed. Truly, if there is teamwork, there will be progress and development,” said Hon. Cerilles.

Meanwhile, 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said the turnover ceremony was timely for the Bangsamoro brothers and sisters’ commemoration of Eid al-Adha.”The 53IB and the Army are one with our Bangsamoro brothers and sisters in commemorating the Eid al-Adha.

Surely, this Masjid will be of significant use to them during this significant occasion,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.Mama Barangay Chairman Casim Tinggalong and Bangsamoro Elder Uztadz Ebrahim Balindong also said in their messages that the construction and turnover of the Masjid will forever etch a mark in the hearts of the Muslim Community of Barangay Mama.

“We thank the Government and the Army for finally noticing us because for a very long time, the Bangsamoro Community was just ignored,” said Hon. Tinggalong.”

This Masjid will never be forgotten even after many generations has passed,” Uztadz Balindong added.For his part, 54th Engineer Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Anthony Cacayuran emphasized the importance of spirituality and education among the children and the youth.”

We expect that the children here will be role models of future generations. We encourage the parents to help and mold their children so that a conducive peace and development can be achieved,” said Brig. Gen. Cacayuran.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared July 20, 2021 as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid al-Adha or the the Muslims’ Feast of Sacrifice by virtue of Proclamation 1189 which reads “The National Commission on Bangsamoro Filipinos has recommended that 20 July 2021 be declared a national holiday, in observance of Eid’l Adha.

”Eid al-Adha is one of the two most important holidays in the Hijiri calendar. It commemorates the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son at the command of Allah.

This activity is part of the 53IB’s drive to pursue transformation to become a world class Army that is a source of national pride by 2028 in line with the Army Transformation Roadmap (ATR).
