Appreciating Years of Service: 53IB Bestows Matapat Eagle Award to Retiree

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) bestowed the Matapat Eagle Award to show its appreciation to one of its retiree in a simple ceremony held at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Maj. David Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur yesterday afternoon, July 5.

The Matapat Eagle Award was received by retiree Staff Sergeant Ericson Carlito, who has been serving the people since November 1998.A Certificate of Appreciation was also given to SSg Carlito’s wife, Mrs. Perlita Calito, for her invaluable support to his husband while serving the Filipino people.

“I thank our Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera and all the Matapat Troopers for this [Matapat Eagle] award and this ceremony. Even after I retire, I will look for ways to be of help to you, my fellow Matapat Troopers,” said SSg. Carlito in his message.

Meanwhile, 53IB Commanding Officer congratulated SSg. Carlito for “finishing the race.”

“You spent your life for the country, but the time has come to look after yourself and your family. We are very grateful to have you in serving the communities and securing the province of Zamboanga del Sur,” said Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera.

“Your achievements have made the difference in the Armed Forces and I commend your dedication and patriotism,” Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera added.

This activity is part of 53IB’s drive to pursue transformation to become a world-class Army that is a source of national pride by 2028 in line with the Army Transformation Roadmap (ATR).
