CLEANER AND GREENER ENVIRONMENT | Government Security Forces Commemorate 158th Philippine Forestry Service, Arbor Day Celebration

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Region 9 (DENR-IX) together ith Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) and other government security forces commemorated the 158th Year of Philippine Forestry Service and Arbor Day in a simple tree planting ceremony at the Modernized and Mechanized Forest Nursery in Barangay Baclay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur on June 22, 2021.

The Proclamation No. 643 signed in 2004 institutionalized the observance of the Philippine Arbor Day every June 1.

This proclamation declared the need to observe one day of each year for the tree planting activities to promote a healthier ecosystem for the people. A total of 400 endangered species of plants namely; Lumbayao tree, Red Nato tree, and Almon tree were planted simultaneously to avoid the influx of the participants on the said day.

The activity was also attended by 1st CMO “Mahigalaon” Battalion (1CMOBn), 1st Field Artillery “Beat ‘Em” Battalion (1FAB), Tactical Operations Group 9 (TOG9), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Bureau of Jail and Management Phenology (BJMP).
