HEROES BEHIND HEROES: 53IB Recognizes Wives of Matapat Troopers Retirees
The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) awarded a Certificate of Recognition to the wives of Matapat Troopers retirees during the Flag Raising Ceremony on May 3, 2021, at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Maj. David Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The said Certificates of Recognition were given to Mrs. Geraldine Asong, TSg Nelson Asong’s wife and Mrs. Mary Cecile Crusio, SSg. Julie Crusio’s wife for their untiring support, love, and enduring commitment that keep both soldiers to be motivated in accomplishing their tasks and responsibilities in serving their unit, country, and people for more than 25 years.
“Congratulations to the ever supportive wives of the Matapat Troopers. The military spouse plays a significant role in the life and morale of the men-in-uniform. You are indeed heroes behind the heroes,” 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said.
“Without you at home, the family of the men in service would not be grounded, safe, and functioning while your husbands perform their tasks in the middle of nowhere. For so many years, we know how your husbands kept their missions confidential. It is never easy to pray every night and wait every day until they are all able to contact you or come back home safe and sound,” Lt Col. Herrera added.
