SHARED RESPONSIBILITY FOR PEACE | 53IB Provides Security Updates for Sominot, ZDS

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) provided peace and security updates during Joint Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) for the Municipality of Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur (ZDS) on April 27, 2021 at Poblacion Gymnasium of Sominot.

The topics that were discussed during the meeting include current CPP-NPA situation updates, new area of operations in ZDS including the Municipality of Siayan, Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) Projects, peacebuilding efforts and community engagements, 53IB online initiatives including Facebook Page and 53IB website, “Breaking Free” book, and “Better Life Program” for CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA).

Present during the event were Sominot Mayor Jhonriel Melo, Vice Mayor Proceso Estrada, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (MGLOO), P/Lt. Juanito Aballe, and Gadelyn Palong-palong, Sominot Municipal Health Officer Dr. Richelle Villanueva, 53IB Officer 1Lt. Janryl Gumalad, and Municipal Council members of Sominot.
