HOMECOMING IN CASKET | Government Forces Bring Home Cadavers of Rebels Abandoned by CPP-NPA

After being abandoned in a firefight between Joint Government Security Forces in Barangay Guinlin, Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur on April 22, 2021, the cadavers of two killed remnants members of the defunct members of Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army’s (CPP-NPA) Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) were recovered by the Philippine Army.

53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) Charlie Company Commander 1Lt. Jonathan Cernitchez recovered the bodies from the encounter site to reach the nearest transport area and turned-over the bodies to Municipal Task Force Chairman Mayor Eleazar Carcallas at the Municipal office of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur on the same day. The family members were able to identify the bodies of Felimon Suazo, a.k.a. “Jonathan Cruz/Nathan” and James Cordero, a.k.a. “Tito.”

“We feel very sorry for the families who lost their loved ones. We are sending back them back home as our way of respecting and recognizing that they were once with a member of their families before they were deceived by the wrong ideologies and joined the heartless group of CPP-NPA,” 53IB Commanding Officer Jo-ar Herrera said.

“We are all Filipinos and to counter this fight against our government forces is the very last thing we want to do. Our fight is not focused on winning a battle through barrels of guns, because we wanted more surrenders than body counts,” 102nd Infantry “Igsoon” Brigade Commander BGen. Leonel Nicolas said.
