CLOSER TO SUBANEN CULTURE: Army Joins Subanen Local Activities at Barangay Sinonok, Dumingag, ZDS
The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) participated in the local activities to highlight Subanen culture with residents of Barangay Sinonok, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur on March 31, 2021.
The 53IB Alpha Company collaborated with Barangay Sinonok officials led by Chairman Edgar in holding the activities to showcase the richness and beauty and rekindle the spirit of Subanen culture in the area.
“The local residents wore Subanen traditional costumes and took pride in their identity as a tribe,” 53IB Alpha Company Commander 2Lt. Janryl Gumalad said.
“The community engagements are proactive measures to connect our Matapat Troopers to the people we serve, to make the residents feel that the government is genuinely caring for them, and also to inform them of the Army’s initiatives for peace and progress,” 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said.
