Recognizing Efficiency, Excellence: 11 Matapat Troopers Receive Military Medals, Commendation Letters

In recognition for their meritorious performance and invaluable service rendered during the recent Philippine Army Annual General Inspection covering the period of 4th Quarter 2019 to 3rd Quarter 2020 conducted to the 1st Infantry “TABAK” Division, 10 Troopers from the 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) received Military Merit Medals and Letter of Commendation during the Flag Raising Ceremony at 53IB Headquarters, Camp Major Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur on March 15, 2021.

“Imbued with a deep sense of responsibility, loyalty, and devotion to duty coupled with professional competence and hard work, the officers, men, and women of the 1ID, PA worked with dedication in order to achieve a successful result of inspection aligned with the higher headquarters mandate. As a result, the command obtained its fraction as the number 1 among Philippine Army Major Units (PAMU) with a rating of 93.442%. By these laudable achievements, officers, men, and women of the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division, Philippine Army earned distinct credit and honor not only for the Philippine Army but also for the Armed Forces of the Philippines as well,” the award citation reads.

The Military Merit Medal awardees include the following: TSg. Rey Desor, SSg. Nofirt Alquizar, Sgt. Juvy De Vicente, Sgt. Macario Pradel, Sgt. Rommel Taneo, Cpl. Juvelito Casipong, Cpl. Romel John Genova, Pfc. Milkie Gamoc, and Pvt. Jimmy Lito Villegas.The Letter of Commendation recipients are the following: Pfc. Cris Jhaymer Zapata and Pfc. Choco Laureta.

“I thank God for His guidance and I’m also thankful for this recognition of our efforts. I couldn’t have achieved this award without the support and unity from everybody in this unit. This award would give us strong motivation to working harder and bringing more honor to 53IB,” SSg. Alquizar said.

“This recognition inspires us to strive even more in fulfilling our duties and responsibilities,” Sgt. De Vicente said.

“I’m very thankful to our Battalion Commander, Sir Herrera for molding and guiding us. What we have become today is because of your leadership,” Pfc Zapata said.

“We are so grateful to Sir Herrera for teaching us and filling our lapses. We will surely bring all the learnings that we get from you wherever we go,” Pfc Laureta said.

“In the occasion of the 124th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Army, I should be the one expressing gratitude for all of you because you are doing your job well and I am just guiding you to do your best. Our Matapat Trooper Cpl. Fritz Floyd Prejoles has been selected as ‘The Best Enlisted Personnel of the Philippine Army for 2020’ and I am so proud that he came from our unit,” 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Herrera said.
