Adopt a CAFGU Project: 53IB, LGU Conduct Medical Missions in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur
The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur conducted Medical Mission activities as part of 53IB’s “Adopt a CAFGU (Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit) Project” for the members of CAFGU Active Auxillary (CAA) units and families in Brgy. Bualan and Brgy. Kitaang Dagat in Kumalarang, ZDS on February 27-28, 2021.
The “Adopt a CAFGU Project” is an initiative undertaken by the 53IB, launched on December 17, 2020, to provide necessary assistance, knowledge, and a structured pathway to all CAAs in the area of responsibilities for them to achieve personal and professional growth.
“The project aims to address the issues and concerns of the CAA units and encourage government sectors to conduct interventions that can be offered to them,” 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera said.
The Medical Mission’s objectives were to promote, educate and demonstrate the importance of health and wellness among the CAA units. The mission provided eyeglasses, bloodletting, circumcision, dental check-up, free haircuts, manicure pedicure, massage, medical check-ups, and gift giving for kids.
Volunteers from the 102nd Infantry “IGSOON” Brigade Dental Team, 53IB’s Medical Technology Team, and Medical Professionals from Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro formed part of the Medical Mission.
The Medical Mission was supported by the 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar A Herrera, 53IB Executive Officer Cpt. Bahnarin K Camsa, 53IB Charlie Commanding Officer, 1Lt. Jonathan Cernitchez, 102nd Dental Operating Team, 1Lt. Marvin Seth Faderugao, and LGU Kumalarang headed by Hon. Raniel O Dormitorio, Acting Municipal Mayor, Board Members Hon. Raul Famor, Hon. Dang Mariano, Zamboanga del Sur 2nd District Board Member John Regala, Maria Victoria Yu, Youth Organization President of ZDS as representative of Gov. Victor J Yu, Brgy. Chairman, Bualan Kumalarang, ZDS, Hon. Antonio Palada, Regional Health Unit Kumalarang Head Soraida Claveria, Kumalarang Municipal Health Officer Dr. Jeosa Jumamoy, Medical Technologist Rodrigo Rodrigues and Amai Pakpak Medical Center Blood Bank Team.
