LTC Villanueva’s Heroism Reigns in 53IB

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) honored Late Lt. Col. Dennis Villanueva, former Battalion Commander of the 53IB who was killed-in-action on February 10, 2005 after enduring enemy mortar fires in Jolo Sulu.

The family of Lt. Col. Villanueva visited the 53IB Headquarters Camp Maj. David Sabido in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur on February 17, 2021.

A simple inauguration ceremony of Lt. Col. Dennis Villanueva Road was held on January 22, 2021 with local government officials.

“The Matapat Troopers are grateful for the visit of Late Lt. Col. Villanueva’s family. We let them witnessed the fruits of his heroic acts and of those who fought against the enemy that greatly contributed to the current 53IB,” Lt. Col. Herrera said.

The current Battalion Commander of the 53IB, Lt Col Jo-ar Herrera said as recognition for the heroic deeds and leadership of the Lt. Col. Villanueva, the 53IB initiated to honor him with a 600-meter concrete road from Pagadian-Margosatubig Highway leading to the Battalion Headquarters in his name.

“Our family is very grateful for this recognition honoring my husband’s contribution and service to our country,” Mrs. Evangeline Villanueva, LTC Villanueva’s wife said.
