Breaking Free From Communist Deception: SOWING HATRED, AGITATING THE YOUTH
For more than half a decade, Filipino youths have been menaced by deceptions of the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).
The CPP-NPA has systematically agitated and sowed hatred in the hearts and minds of their young recruits. The issues anchored around poverty and the persistent ineptness of government services as implemented by oppressive government officials were deliberately presented as propaganda to incite discontent and bitterness among the youths.
The CPP-NPA recruiters elaborately blamed the government for the supposed ills of society, injustices, human rights violations, and poverty among communities, particularly in far-flung areas.
Exploiting the vulnerability of the youths, recruiters exposed them to an imaginary reality that all government officials were corrupt, selfish, and dishonest thereby causing a polarized society that intentionally marginalizes the poor.

Written by Leah Agonoy, a Pagadian-based journalist, and 53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, the “BREAKING FREE” book highlights eye-opening narratives of actual accounts of young people’s fateful journeys who were once deceived but were able to break free from the shadows of communist deceptions in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
