MATAPAT@36 | 53IB Holds Groundbreaking Ceremonies for Camp Sabido Concrete Road, Motor Pool Covered Facility

The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) held a groundbreaking ceremony on January 26, 2020, for the construction of concrete road and motor pool inside Camp Maj. David P. Sabido 53IB Headquarters, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur in a simple program with 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Gene M. Ponio as Guest of Honor and Speaker and Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor J. Yu as guest.

The groundbreaking ceremony was part of 53IB’s 36th Founding Anniversary celebrations with the theme: MATAPAT@36: Remember with Gratitude, Renew with Passion.”

Maj. Gen. Gene M Ponio, Commander, 1ID, PA expressed his appreciation for the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur for supporting the 53IB and also for the Division in any way they can.

“For almost a year, the 53IB has been very active in engaging stakeholders and partners who supported the unit’s projects in improving establishments like these,” Maj Gen. Ponio said.

“I like to congratulate you (53IB) for your accomplishments. Your 36th years of existence have been remarkable. I have witnessed the fast-paced achievements and gains that you have contributed for this Province,” Maj. Gen. Ponio said.

“We can do all things through passion. We, the Provincial Government of the Zamboanga del Sur, have always been here to support you. I can’t imagine the province without this unit who maintain peace and order all throughout its area of operation,” Gov. Yu said.

Rev. Father Peter John Cardos, OSA, Parish Priest of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, blessed the location of the motor pool and the road inside the camp.
