Relentless Coastal Patrol Apprehend Illegal Fishermen in Zambo Sur

In its conduct of relentless coastal patrol in the coastal municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur, the Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) together with elements of Vincenzo Sagun MPS and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 (RMFB9) successfully apprehended three (3) illegal fishermen on December 9, 2020 in the coastal waters of Takot Silayo, Vincenzo Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur.

The three, all hailing from Zamboanga Sibugay Province, were apprehended due to fishing with use of compressor— a violation of Vincenzo Sagun Municipal Ordinance No. 24-2017 also known as the “Revised Municipal Fishery Code of the Municipality of Vincenzo Sagun.”

Aside from the compressor, confiscated from the three fishermen were their motorized pumpboat, one (1) box with 5 kilograms of assorted fish, and other fishing paraphernalia.

Said motorized pump boat and personalities were brought to VSagun MPS for documentation and subsequently turned over to DA-BFAR for proper disposition.

Just yesterday December 10, the Municipal Government of Vincenzo Sagun turned-over a triple-engine boat to help sustain the Battalion’s efforts in Development Support and Security Operations (DSSO) in its Area of Responsibility (AOR) especially in the conduct of Coastal Security Operations.

This will significantly enhance the coastal security posture of Vincenzo Sagun and Zamboanga del Sur as a whole.
