Ending Insurgency

Army’s 53rd IB clashes with NPA terrorist remnants in ZamboSur, captures IED

The Army’s Task Unit “DAGGER” composed of combined elements of Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) and 10th Infantry “STEADY ON” Battalion (10IB) clash with the remnants of NPA’s Main Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU) of Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) in Barangay Katipunan of this town on November 30, 2020.

Having no casualties incurred in the 10-minute firefight, the government troops were able to capture multiple personal belongings including a fuse used in making an improvised explosive device (IED).

The government forces believe that they encountered the occupants of a discovered Communist-NPA Terrorist (CNT) hideout yesterday, November 29, in Purok 5 of Barangay Ocapan, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.

With 8 remaining members, the NPA terrorists’ MRGU is in the brink of collapse, following the commitment of alias Jotham, their former commander, to Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Jail by virtue of a commitment order issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 18 in Pagadian City.

Even so, the NPA terrorists continue to commit atrocities targeting innocent civilians and vulnerable communities as evidently manifested by their continued use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which is banned both on local and international agreements and conventions.

According to 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, the NPA terrorists operating in 53rd IB’s area of operations (AO) will soon meet its end as they lose both their members and the support of the masses.

“Only time will tell.. The MRGU will finally meet its end as more members of our communities take their part in our peace keeping efforts,” said Lt. Col. Herrera in a statement.

The government troops are currently conducting hot pursuit operations as of this posting.
