Six (6) Former Rebels (FRs) of Army’s 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) will receive skills enhancement training on Carpentry provided by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in a simple opening ceremony held November 3, 2020 at 53rd IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
This training intends to capacitate the former rebels and equip them with necessary knowledge and skills to be productive members of the society.
Present during the opening ceremony were TESDA-IX Regional Director Dan Navarro, Assistant Regional Director and TESDA-ZDS Provincial Director Engr. Alan Bacatan.
In his message, 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col Herrera thanked TESDA for their invaluable contributions as the lead agency of Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Empoyment Cluster (PRLEC) of Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC).
According to Director Navarro, the skills training is a fruit of the convergence and close collaboration between TESDA and 53rd IB. Aligned with Executive Order 70 (EO 70), this institutionalizes the whole-of-nation approach in addressing the local communist armed conflict in the country.
TESDA-IX and TESDA-ZDS has been the unit’s partner in empowering and capacitating its FRs especially in terms of skills development, and has since conducted various skills training such as Training Cum Production in Photo Voltaic Installation, Training Cum Production in Masonry, and Community-Based Training in Process Food by Curing, Fermentation and Pickling.
Also included in the training are nineteen (19) CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAAs ) of 53rd IB. Both the FRs and the CAAs will receive TESDA National Certificate (NCII) upon completion of the course.
The training will start on Monday, November 9, 2020.
