The San Miguel Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) empowers San Miguel Barangay Captains in a Local Peace Building Forum held on October 8, 2020 at 53rd IB Headquarters, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The said Local Peace Building Forum aims to have better convergence and collaboration with the Barangay Captains of San Miguel town, as they play a vital role in ending local communist armed conflict.
Aside from the forum, the Barangay Captains were also apprised of the unit’s current situational updates. They also had a lecture about EO 70 and Anti-Terrorism Law which were delivered by ZamboSur PTF-ELCAC Focal Person Mr. Ruel Trobanos and RTC-IX Judge Atty. Alexander Betoya, respectively.
With the recent groundbreaking ceremony of ELCAC projects in Barangay Concepcion, San Miguel now vies to be free from Communist-NPA terrorist influence.
Three of San Miguel’s 14 barangays were already declared as “Cleared” from NPA terrorists’ influence through Army’s Community Support Program (CSP). This paved the way for the entry of Serbisyo Caravans and various government projects and initiatives in San Miguel.
San Miguel Mayor and MTF-ELCAC Chairperson Hon. Angelito Martinez II in his message thanked the 53rd IB for the opportunity to empower the Barangay Captains and encouraged everyone to stand and work together in addressing the insurgency.
“Addressing the insurgency necessitates good governance, that’s why we empower our Barangay Captains and reiterate their crucial role in eradicating this 5-decade-long armed conflict,” said Hon. Martinez.
Meanwhile, 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera also thanked the Mayor of San Miguel, as well as the Brgy Captains for their never-ceasing support and assistance to 53rd IB.
“We are very much happy of having you here in our Battalion for this Peace Building Forum, in which we will make our relationship much more stronger than ever,” Lt. Col. Herrera said.
The barangay chiefs were also shown the ongoing construction of the Halfway House where the Former Rebels (FRs) will stay while processing their benefits under E-CLIP. The guests also participated in a tree-planting activity, fun shoot, and watched the 53rd IB Army Show at the Matapat Firing Range after the activity.
