A High Mass was celebrated as Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion (53IB) commemorated the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel yesterday, September 30, at the Saint Michael the Archangel Chapel in 53rd IB Headquarters, Camp Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The Mass was celebrated by Most. Rev. Ronald Lunas, D. D. — Archbishop of the Diocese of Pagadian. He was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Rene Herrera and Rev. Fr. Joseph Muego, SCJ.
In Christian angelology, the Archangel Michael is the greatest of all the angels and is honored for defeating Lucifer in the war in heaven.
The high mass was followed by a thanksgiving dinner in which stakeholders and the families of the Matapat Troopers were invited.
In his message to the troops, 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera reminded the Matapat Troopers and all the guests to always invoke the guidance of the Almighty in everything we do.
“We thank the Lord for protecting us, our troops in the conduct of military operations, our families, and loved ones,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
“We must never forget to ask for the Lord’s guidance, because He graciously gives to anyone who asks, if it is according to His plan,” Lt. Col. Herrera added.
To the Catholic faithful, Archangel Michael is the Commander of God’s army, and is the patron saint of military personnel. His feast day, together with Archangels Gabriel and Raphael, is celebrated every September 29.
