53IB Provides Medical Care for Wounded NPA Commander

The Philippine Army provides medical care to a wounded New People’s Army commander during a recent armed encounter with the 53rd Infantry Battalion Zamboanga Del Sur on September 21, 2020.

The NPA commander, alias “Jonathan/Henry, was apprehended by the army after he was abandoned by his comrades after suffering gunshot wounds in the said encounter.

53IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Hererra said that it is just right to treat the wounded even if he is an enemy. He also mentioned that as stated in the International Humanitarian Law, the wounded and sick shall be collected and cared for.

“Treatment of Enemy Wounded is an Army’s strong adherence and commitment to moral code,” Lt. Col. Herrera said.
