Hinterland community in Zamboanga del Sur reaffirms love for country
Residents in the hinterland village of Masubong, Sitio Huwebesan, Barangay Mate in Tigbao town, Zamboanga del Sur participated in a Flag Raising Ceremony during the Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion’s (53IB) conduct of Community Engagement.


The community engagement team was led by 2Lt. Niel Kim Garcia, Bravo Company Commander of 53IB. The engagement lasted for about two weeks, with the intention to awaken the patriotism and nationalism of the residents in the said community.
The said flag-raising ceremony is the conclusion of a series of activities incorporated in the unit’s conduct of Community Engagement.
Residents said it has been a long time since they were able to express their love for country.
Barangay Mati is known to be a former safe haven of Communist-NPA Terrorists operating in the province.
Now that it has been cleared of NPA influence, it is programmed for the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
