53rd IB commended by 102nd Brigade Commander
The 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas commended 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion under leadership of Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera in his visit at Headquarters, 53rd IB, Camp Sabido, this town today 30 June.

Col. Nicolas congratulated and commended the unit for their victory in a recent firefight against Communist-NPA Terrorists last 28 June in Barangay Piwan in Midsalip town, this province.
The troops of 97th and 42nd IB placed under operational control to 53rd IB successfully killed one NPA terrorist while conducting combat patrol in the far-flung barangay of Piwan. Troops also recovered one M14 rifle, four anti-personnel landmines, assorted medicinal items, ammunitions, explosives and its components, and grenades.
With this, Col. Nicolas emphasized the importance of interoperability and mutual support among units under the brigade.
“The firefight, death of the NPA terrorist, and successful recovery of a high-powered firearm, landmines, medicinal items, ammunitions, explosives and its components, and grenades was evidence that the plan was executed successfully,” said Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, 53rd IB Commander.
The killed NPA terrorist belongs to HQ “KALAW.”
The recent victory is also a tip-off from a concerned community in Brgy Piwan. The community, being tired of the evil schemes of the NPA terrorists, told the troops the whereabouts of the said NPAs.
The troops are still in hot pursuit of the NPA terrorists conducting atrocities, extortion, and evil propaganda activities to the far-flung barangays.
