The Philippine Army’s 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion together with the Zamboanga del Sur 1st District Representative Divina Grace Yu distributed food packs to the residents of the far-flung barangay of Gasa in Lakewood town, this province Friday 19 June.
More than 150 families received food packs from the office of the Congresswoman.
Congw. Yu thanked the Army for lending a hand, their untiring effort, and selfless dedication to duty in the distribution of the relief goods and in helping the communities even in far-flung areas.
“Once again, I thank the 53rd IB in their invaluable service to the communities, in serving the Filipino people, and in helping us in our mandate to deliver the basic and government services to our constituents,” said Congw. Yu.

Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, the 53rd IB Commander, thanked the office of the Congresswoman and the MTF-ELCAC Chair for their initiatives in helping their constituents.
“I thank the Congresswoman and the MTF-ELCAC chair for their love and care for their constituents, and hopefully more government programs, services, and initiatives will soon enter the other barangays of this town as well,” said Lt. Col. Herrera.
Lt. Col. Herrera, Congw. Yu, and Mayor Mirrar encouraged the residents of Barangay Gasa to support the programs of the President and called to stop supporting the activities of the New People Army (NPA) terrorists.
